QUESTION: Most of us are familiar with you through your music with We Are Messengers. What is it about speaking and teaching that draws you toward it?
DARREN: Despite the play on words, I’ve always viewed my calling as that of a “messenger” – whether through songwriting, live concerts, or in my everyday conversations with those around me. Songs are such a powerful and efficient way to communicate truth in a short amount of time. However, there are certain subjects and topics that demand a deeper conversation that transcend the context of the lyrics of a verse and chorus. I believe that the Gospel, the written word of God is the most powerful tool we have and that the preaching and teaching of the scriptures can, does and will continue to change the world.
QUESTION: Are you stepping away from your music ministry to become to full time speaker?
DARREN: Definitely not. I view these speaking and teaching opportunities as direct extension of my ministry with We Are Messengers – not as a distraction from the band. My prayer is that these speaking opportunities add a depth and richness to the impact and experience of the music.
QUESTION: Now that you’ve relocated to your home in Ireland. Are you still able to pursue speaking and teaching opportunities in the United States and Canada?
DARREN: Absolutely. Even though We Are Messengers is a global band and we have been honored to tour all over the world, we’ve strategically balanced our touring and family schedules in a way that allows us to focus on North America with concentrated and purposeful seasons of time. Moving home and being around family and grounded in the local church has allowed me to have a healthier spiritual life and brought into focus the importance of the local church which now more than ever is the hope of the world.
